The task of hiring a DJ begins with having to decide on the kind of DJ one would like to have €" a single operator, multi operator DJ or a club DJ.

Among other things to check with the DJ before hiring is their focus on the lighting and whether would bring along special effect lighting with them.
Most DJs are also engaged in some other profession during the week. The DJs alternative career can be an indicator of his personality and will help understand if they can fit into the environment of the event.
The commercials of the deal also need to be discussed during the meeting and this can help the host compare with what the other DJs are quoting and what suits his budget the best.
Some other important aspects towards making the event successful is by ensuring that the DJ is thoroughly briefed about what is expected out of him and what kind of music has to be played.
The right equipment is absolutely critical and the DJ needs to know the approximate size of the gathering and whether it is indoor or outdoor. Likewise, a reasonable amount of time has to be kept aside for setting up the equipment, well before the start of the event.
Entering into a formal contract with all the commercial details is always advisable as the host needs to ensure that the event is a memorable one. Following the signing of the contract, it may be required for both parties to meet on a couple of occasions to work out the finer details of arrangements.
