To the west of Gwynedd is the Llyn Peninsula with some wonderful beaches and slightly less challenging country walks.
You can visit the towns of Porthmadog, Criccieth, Pwllheli and Abersoch on the south coast or explore the relatively untainted beauty of the peninsula's north coast.
The north coast of the Llyn Peninsula is much steeper but does offer stunning views north towards the Isle of Anglesey.
Further south are the mountains of southern Snowdonia such as Cader Idris and the coastal towns of Harlech, and Barmouth.
If you venture inland then the town of Bala is renowned for its excellent water sports facilities.
Camping in southern Gwynedd can give you a feeling of remoteness unlike any other with literally miles of unspoilt countryside around you.
Finally further south you reach the town of Dolgellau which is the perfect gateway to either north or mid Wales.
