    • 1). Freeze the items in your freezer for at least two days. The items will need to be completely frozen before freeze drying.

    • 2). Turn the freeze drying machine on to start the freezing process. Make sure the refrigeration is set to "auto." Typically, when the temperature of the freeze dryer reaches -40 degrees F, the vacuum pump with kick on.

    • 3). Place the food in the freeze dryer when the level of the vacuum pump is below 133 x 10-3 mBar. Most freeze dryers have an indicator light to let you know when the machine is ready for use.

    • 4). Turn off the vacuum release valve and turn the refrigerator switch off.

    • 5). Store the freeze dried food in an airtight bag after the freeze drying process.
