How to Bind Blankets
- 1). Measure the edge of the blanket to be bound. You may only need to bind the top or bottom edge of the blanket. If one side edge of the blanket is worn, bind both edges for a uniform look.
- 2). Purchase enough binding to cover the area you wish to bind, plus a few inches extra for overlap.
- 3). Unfold the binding. The binding will be folded in half, with the edges of each half folded under again. One half may be slightly larger than the other half. This is so when you have completed the binding job, only one set of stitches will show on the outside of the blanket.
- 4). Match the narrowest side of the binding to the edge of the blanket, with the right side of the binding against the backside of the blanket. Sew a 1/4-inch seam to join the binding and blanket together.
- 5). Fold binding over the raw edge of the blanket. The right side of binding now faces out on top of the blanket. Sew along the edge of the binding to secure the binding to the blanket. Use a straight or a zigzag stitch.
