My KitchenAid Dishwasher Is Leaking From the Right Side
- When a dishwasher is installed, the floor on which the unit is placed should sit level from side to side and from front to back. A level dishwasher ensures that the water in the unit flows back down toward the drain at all times. If the floor sits uneven though, the dishwasher will as well, and if it tilts to the right side, it may cause leaks. Use a level to check the dishwasher’s evenness on the floor and wedge a piece of wood beneath the right side of the unit to level it if necessary.
- If the dishwasher sits even on the floor’s surface and you still experience leaking from the right side, this may be due to weakness in the seal. This may occur either because there is a tear in the seal around the door of the dishwasher, which is generally visible, or the seal is stretched. Check the seal on the right side of the door to ensure that the seal fits flat against the perimeter of the door and has no visible holes. Have the seal replaced if it shows signs of weakness.
- The simplest possible cause of a leaking KitchenAid dishwasher is the use of too much detergent during the wash cycle. Follow the guides in the detergent dispensers in the unit and never fill the dispensers above the marked maximum fill lines. Use only those detergents recommended for use in dishwashers. If you use the proper detergent in the proper amount but continue to have issues with leaking, KitchenAid recommends switching detergents. If the dishwasher leaks from only the right side though, an uneven unit or damaged seal are more likely causes.
- If your KitchenAid dishwasher remains under warranty, contact KitchenAid and let them repair any component, such as the door seal, that needs replacing. Often, replacing a component of the dishwasher on your own voids the manufacturer’s warranty, so if you experience future issues with the unit, you won’t be able to have the unit repaired or replaced for free.
