Winterizing Instructions for a Volvo Penta 4.3L
- 1). Look at the fuel gauge on your Volvo's dashboard and determine the amount of fuel is in the fuel tank. Refer to your boat's owners manual for the fuel tank capacity.
- 2). Pour the proper amount of fuel stabilizer into the tank. Refer to the label on the bottle for the proper stabilizer-to-fuel ratio.
- 3). Connect the outdrive muffs to a garden hose. Place the outdrive muffs onto the outdrive over the vent holes.
- 4). Remove the engine compartment cover and locate the spark arrestor. It is mounted directly on top of the carburetor. It is a round air filter that is held to the carburetor with one nut. Remove this nut and pull the spark arrestor from the carburetor.
- 5). Turn the water source on and allow the air bubbles to exit the outdrive muffs from inside the hose.
- 6). Start your Volvo Penta's engine and allow it to idle for 15 minutes. This will allow the stabilized fuel to reach the carburetor.
- 7). Spray fogging oil into the carburetor until the engine dies out.
- 8). Turn off the water supply and remove the outdrive muffs from the engine.
- 9). Replace the spark arrestor onto the carburetor and tighten the nut with a wrench.

Remove the drain plugs from the bottom side of the engine with a wrench. There are four drain plugs, one at each corner. Refer to your owner's manual for exact drain plug location as each model year is slightly different. Allow the water to run out of the engine before reinstalling the drain plugs and tightening them with a wrench. - 11
Lower the outdrive to the ground to keep the gears inside the outdrive lubricated during storage. - 12
Turn the battery switch to the "off" position. If you do not have a battery switch, remove the negative terminal from the battery with a wrench.
