How to Nail a Quarter Round to the Floor or Cabinet
- 1). Lay the quarter round molding into place against the base of the floor or cabinet with the rounded side facing out. The 90-degree back sides of the molding should fit tightly against the wall and floor or cabinet base and floor.
- 2). Hold the quarter round molding tightly in place and hammer finish nails through the center of the curved front side of the molding every 6 to 8 inches at a downward 45-degree angle to fasten it in place.
- 3). Center a nail set over each nail head. Tap the nail set with a hammer to sink each nail approximately 1/16-inch below the surface of the wood.
- 4). Fill each nail hole with wood putty using a putty knife. Allow the putty to dry overnight and sand it flush with the surface of the wood using a fine-grit sanding block.
