How to Replace the Fan on a 2002 Chevy Truck V8 Engine
- 1). Pop the hood. Remove the air intake tubing from the engine using the flat-head screwdriver and set it to the side. Remove the upper fan shroud from the radiator using the 3/8-inch ratchet, extension and sockets.
- 2). Loosen the nut on the backside of the fan between the pulley and the fan itself using an open-end wrench. If the pulley slips and won't allow you to remove the nut, stick the pry bar between two of the nuts on the pulley to hold it steady for leverage. Then take the fan out of the engine bay.
- 3). Unbolt the fan blades from the fan clutch using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Install the replacement blades on the clutch using the ratchet, then install the fan on the pulley using an open-end wrench.
- 4). Reinstall the upper radiator shroud on the radiator using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Install the intake tubing on the intake using the flat-head screwdriver.
