    • 1). Turn off the electricity to the Whirlpool refrigerator. Unplug the appliance or, if you can't reach the plug, cut the power for the circuit where the refrigerator is connected at the main circuit breaker.

    • 2). Look for the water supply valve connection for the Whirlpool refrigerator. In most installations, the connection is underneath the nearest sink on the cold water supply valve. A water supply line should connect to the supply valve and lead back to the refrigerator.

    • 3). Turn off the water supply line by grasping the knob and turning it all the way clockwise.

    • 4). Place a towel underneath the water supply valve. Use a wrench to loosen the coupling connecting the water supply hose to the valve. Catch any water with the towel.

    • 5). Pull the refrigerator back so you can access the rear of the appliance. Have a friend help you, if needed. Most modern Whirlpool refrigerators have wheels on the bottom to make moving easier.

    • 6). Look for the connection at the top of the refrigerator where the water supply line connects.

    • 7). Hold a towel underneath the coupling where the supply line connects to the refrigerator. Use a wrench to loosen the coupling. Catch any water that drips out with a towel.
