    • 1). Shut down the laptop through the Windows operating system. Unplug the main power cable, and any external devices attached to the computer's data and networking ports. Pull the display panel closed, and place the laptop face down on a flat surface.

    • 2). Slide the laptop's battery release button to the left. Remove the battery pack from its compartment in the upper-left corner of the laptop's bottom case. Remove the single, Phillips-head screw securing the CD/DVD drive to its compartment in the lower-left corner of the laptop. Grasp the face of the drive, and slide it out of the laptop.

    • 3). Remove the Phillips-head screws from the large hardware cover near the center of the laptop's bottom case. Lift the cover off of the laptop to reveal the internal memory, and the primary hard drive. Remove the secondary hard drive cover, and its retaining screws from the lower-right corner of the laptop.

    • 4). Grasp the protruding pull tab on the primary hard drive. Lift the drive out of its compartment slightly, and unplug the drive's data cable from the motherboard. Remove the primary hard drive from the laptop. Repeat this to remove the secondary drive.

    • 5). Disconnect the two antenna cables from the wireless card module located inside the primary drive's empty compartment. Spread apart the retention clips on each side of the module, tilt it upward at a 45-degree angle and slide it out of the motherboard socket.

    • 6). Spread apart the retention clips on either side of the memory modules situated to the right of the primary drive compartment. Tilt each module upward at an angle, and slide the modules out of their respective memory sockets. Remove the coin-cell Real Time Clock (RTC) battery situated next to the empty memory sockets.

    • 7). Remove all Phillips-head screws from the laptop's bottom case. Flip the laptop over so the top side is facing upward, and pull open the display panel. Grasp each side of the switch cover, and carefully lift it off of the laptop case slightly. This is the plastic strip situated above the keyboard assembly. Unplug the ribbon cable extending from the switch cover's bottom side to the motherboard. Remove the switch cover from the laptop.

    • 8). Remove the four Phillips-head screws from along top edge of the keyboard. Grasp the top of the keyboard, tilt it upward and unplug the large, ribbon cable extending from the keyboard to the motherboard. Locate the speaker assembly situated along the top edge of the laptop. Unplug the speaker cable extending to the motherboard. Remove the speaker from the laptop.

    • 9). Disconnect the LCD video cable from its connector in the upper-left corner of the motherboard. Unscrew the two Phillips-head screws from each display hinge. Place the LCD screen in the upright position, and lift the display panel off of the laptop's base.

      Disconnect the touchpad and fingerprint reader cables from their motherboard connectors situated just above the touchpad device. Unscrew the 11 Phillips-head screws from the laptop's top cover. This is the main, plastic piece concealing the motherboard.

      Lift the top cover off of the laptop's base to reveal the entire motherboard.
