International iPad Launch Info

Looks like supply for Apple's iPad is getting tight yet again. With the device's international launch at hand, international pre-orders taken from May 12 onward will now be scheduled to ship by June 7 according to Apple's various international Web sites. Non-U.S. customers who pre-ordered early should still get their device by May 28.

iPad 3G to Launch April 30

Apple's iPad Wi-Fi+3G is now slated to launch at 5 p.m.

April 30 at Apple and Best Buy retail locations. Meanwhile, Apple's iPad site shows that customers who pre-order the Wi-Fi+3G version online at this point should be receiving their devices by May 7.

International iPad Launch Delayed; iPad 3G U.S. Release on Track

Apple announced some good news and bad news on its site regarding its iPad slate tablet.

The good news? Apple sold more than 500,000 iPads in its first week. The bad news? The robust demand has delayed the iPad international launch by a month to late May.

Looks like the U.S. launch for the iPad 3G is still on track, though, for the end of this month.

Meanwhile, the international delay was enough to turn one alleged iPad fan spastic, according to Apple Insider. This resulted in a chuckle-worthy response from Apple CEO Steve Jobs:

Impatient customer: "Twice to my knowledge you have falsely stated international availability of the iPad and while I do not believe this is any fault of your own, I can imagine that you are not happy being shown as deliberately pulling the wool over the rest of the worlds eyes."

Steve Jobs: "Are you nuts? We are doing the best we can. We need enough units to have a responsible and great launch."

No word on whether Jobs sent the e-mail via his iPhone or his iPad.

Best Buys Sells Out; 450,000 iPads Sold

Looks like supply of the iPad's Wi-Fi version has run out at Best Buy's 673 stores nationwide less than a week after the official April 3 launch, according to the Wall Street Journal. Best Buy expects a new shipment come Sunday.

Meanwhile, supply seems to be holding steady at Apple retail locations so far. You can also order the device at the Apple Online Store.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced on April 8 that 450,000 iPads have been sold with users downloading 3.5 million apps. About 600,000 iBooks have also been downloaded, Job said.

Launch Pre-orders Sold Out

If you're looking to score an iPad on launch day but haven't pre-ordered yet, then get ready to stand in line with the unwashed masses.

Pre-orders and reservations are now closed for opening day, with folks who try to pre-order online now having to wait a wee bit longer.

You can still try to get an iPad at launch day by visiting an Apple Store or Best Buy. But depending on where you live, you may have to line up.

Keep in mind that not all Best Buy outlets will be selling iPads so call ahead to check. And for the Best Buys that will carry them, the buzz now is that each store will only have 15 units in stock.

Official iPad Release Date is April 3

Apple has finally updated its iPad Web site with an official release date of April 3. Looks like rumors of a delay had some credence after all, as the device was originally scheduled to launch late March.

Consumers can start pre-ordering at the Apple Online Store or reserve an iPad for pickup at an Apple retail store starting Friday March 12.

Production and Delay Rumors Hit iPad Just Weeks Before Launch

Will it or won't it?

The scuttlebutt surrounding the iPad's launch and purported delays swayed back and forth just a few weeks prior to its official launch as key suppliers denied having production problems for the device.

The talk was fueled by an analyst who speculated a delay in the iPad launch of up to a month due to production issues, according to Apple Insider.

The comment was quickly rebutted by suppliers for Foxconn Electronics, who say that iPad production is on schedule and that 600,000 to 700,000 iPads should be shipped in March, followed by a million more units in April, according to DigiTimes.

Meanwhile, a report from eWeek.com says that while the device will likely launch on March 26, the iPad 3G version might be delayed as late as May. The article also said that Apple plans to have 140,000 iPad apps available at launch and 300,000 by the end of the year.
