Old Blues Musicians Deserve The Recognition As Much As The Beatles
There are no legends in music today like yesteryear's heroes.
Is it because everything has been played? Has all been tried? Or is it because everyone is out to get a quick buck these days? It seemed that corporate America was losing its grip on the music industry in the nineties and that real artists were back on the rise.
By the turn of the century, it was all back to normal and true musicians were once again hard to find.
This trouble, however, has been around since radio was introduced.
Talent used to be a small fraction of what was needed for one to be played on the radio; the colour of a player's skin was a big part of the equation.
Bluesmen such as Leadbelly or Blind Lemon Jefferson were the craze in the late twenties.
Their slow songs, blues, dance tunes and kids' folk songs were something almost anyone could relate and dance to.
Music would never have been without the original sound of the blues in the forefront.
With the evolution of the new sound, many good artists were left on the side of the road broke because of corporate record motives.
One of the great singers that did make it out of this time was Elvis Presley.
Presley grew up listening to the blues down south and always held them close to his soul.
You can definitely hear the sway of the blues on early Elvis Presley vinyl recordings.
Eventually, the sounds of rock-n-roll hit the English shore.
England was not a place that was known for the blues, nor did they have much in the way of that southern Elvis-like sound of rock.
England, in spite of this, gave a start to the Beatles.
Once the original Beatles vinyl album hit, rock was never the way it had been again.
Many bands would love to have the same success as the Beatles or Elvis, but it is unlikely that anyone could re-create what these talents have done.
There are always those few who cite other artists such as the Stones or Jerry Lee Lewis as being better than Elvis or the Beatles, but sales of vinyl records have shown otherwise.
Even today, Elvis Presley vinyl and Beatles vinyl are always among the treasured possessions in a record collector's dwelling.
However, the real founders of rock-n-roll, the bluesmen, will never reach the same level of fame.
