• HP bills the Envy as a performance laptop, meant to be lightweight and powerful. The computer comes with numerous software applications, including Microsoft Silverlight, Sun Java, Beats Audio, Corel Paintshop Photo Pro X3 and the HP Music Store from Rhapsody. The laptop also is compatible with HP's docking stations.
  
  

Processor and Memory

• The Envy comes with an Intel Core i5-450M processor, which is rated at 2.4 gigahertz. The processor has what Intel calls a Turbo Boost option, which increases the processor's speed to 2.66 gigahertz. The computer comes with 6 gigabytes of DDR3 memory installed, but it can support up to 8 gigabytes of memory.
  
  

Drives

• The Envy's hard drive has 500 gigabytes of storage space. The drive spins at 7,200 rotations per minute when in use and is equipped with SATA and HP's ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection, which parks the hard drive's heads if the computer senses a sudden impact or that it has been dropped. The computer's optical drive comes as slot-loading. The drive reads and writes to both writable and rewritable DVDs and CDs at 8x speed.
  
  

Connections

• The computer comes with one HDMI port and an RJ-45 port for connecting an Ethernet cable to the computer for networking. The Envy also has a microphone-in and headphones-out combo plug that is compatible with a 3.5 millimeter 4-conductor jack. The Envy also has three USB 2.0 ports, with the third port shared with the computer's e-SATA. To connect external monitors, the computer also has a mini-display port. To help with securing the computer to a desk or table, the computer comes with a Kensington Microsaver lock slot.

• The Envy's case measures 14.01 inches wide, 9.33 inches deep and between 1.09 and 1.11 inches tall. The display measures 14.5 inches across. The computer with the battery installed weighs a total of 5.2 pounds.
