Mounting Light Fixtures
- 1). Cut power to the existing fixture at the house fuse box.
- 2). Take out the screws around the old fixture and pull it away enough to get at the wires behind it. Disconnect the wires and pull the fixture completely free. If there is a mounting plate attached to the ceiling electrical box from the fixture, take out the screws holding it here and pull it down. (Note: There should be a white wire, a black wire and a bare copper ground wire left hanging from the box.)
- 3). Hold the mounting plate from your new fixture up to the electrical box and attach it with the screws it came with, putting them though the screw holes in the plate and the box.
- 4). Wrap the end of the bare ground wire around the green ground screw that's on the mounting plate. Tighten it.
- 5). Hold the new fixture up to the electrical box. Link together the black wire from the fixture to the black wire from the box by holding the two wires next to each other and twisting a wire cap over them. Do the same for the for the white wires from the fixture and the electrical box.
- 6). Raise the fixture to the box, tucking the wires into the box as you do. Press the fixture to the mounting plate and line up the screw holes between the fixture and the plate. Insert the provided screws to mount it. Turn on the electricity and test the light.
