Installing an Outdoor Infant Swing on a Tree

• 1). Survey the tree to make sure that the tree is acceptable for hanging the swing. The tree must have a sturdy horizontal branch that is a minimum of 8 inches in diameter. The branch must be such that the swing can be installed at least 3 feet away from the trunk. At the same time, the swing cannot be placed so far out on the branch that it places undue stress on the branch.
  
  
• 2). Drill holes through the selected tree branch with the drill on the top of the branch. The holes need to a little bigger than the diameter of the 8-inch eye bolts.
  
  
• 3). Insert the bolts into the drilled holes. Screw the bolts in until the eyes are tight against the bark of the branch.
  
  
• 4). Place a large flat washer onto each eye bolt, followed by two nuts for each eye bolt. The purpose of the second nut is to lock the first nut onto the eye bolt.
  
  
• 5). Hang the ropes and connections from the infant swing by connecting the swing hardware onto the eye bolts.
  
  
• 6). Test the swing for stability and safety before placing a child into the swing.
