How to Upgrade the Memory on a Dell 1000
- 1). Disconnect your laptop from the AC adapter and flip it over onto its lid. Remove the battery from the laptop by pressing the battery-release latch and sliding the batter out from the edge of the base.
- 2). Remove the two screws holding the memory bay door closed. These screws may not totally separate from the memory bay door. If you can open the memory bay, do not worry about removing the screws.
- 3). Remove any memory stick currently in the computer and set it aside.
- 4). Insert the 1GB memory stick into the memory slot carefully, making sure to secure it in the slot.
- 5). Replace the memory bay cover and screw it down. Replace the battery, flip the laptop upright and plug in the AC adapter. Boot your computer to test the new memory. If you prefer, you can use a program like Memtest86 to thoroughly test your new RAM.
