Various Microsoft Windows operating systems offer large varieties of fonts, many of which are used for languages that use non-Latin alphabets. The Microsoft website provides links to the lists of fonts available for each operating system, as well as links to lists of fonts on older operating systems. Windows 7 and its predecessors, Windows XP and Windows Vista, also enable users to add or delete fonts. - There are dozens of default fonts available for the Windows 7 operating system. To access them, click "Start," then click "Control Panel," then click "Appearance and Personalization" and then click "Fonts." You are at the Control Panel for Fonts, and at the bottom of the listed fonts you will see how many there are installed on your computer. This total count is unique to Windows 7.
- Accessing the list of fonts is similar to the procedure in Windows 7: Click "Start," then click "Control Panel," then click "Appearance and Personalization" and then click "Fonts." The fonts window will also display the number of fonts available.
- To see a list of fonts installed in Windows XP, click "Start," then click "Settings," then click "Control Panel" and then click "Fonts." They are not enumerated, but there are a few dozen listed. You can also tweak the list to sort it in various ways, such as by font similarity.
- Information for older versions of Windows may or may not be found at Microsoft.com, depending on whether or not support is still provided. Search the site using keywords relevant to your operating system.
- Microsoft Windows 7 allows users to add or remove fonts within the default list. Instructions for adding or removing fonts may also be found at Microsoft.com. Older systems may require the registration of an administrator's account, which may be verified at Microsoft.com. Sometimes it is recommended that fonts not be removed, but stored in a folder that the user may create and possibly access at a later time.
