How to Remove a Rotor on a 2004 Chevy Van
- 1). Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel that has the faulty rotor using a lug wrench. Raise the wheel off the ground using a floor jack. Place a jack stand under the lower control arm for front wheels, or rear axle for rear wheels. Remove the lug nuts and lay them aside, along with the wheel.
- 2). Remove the caliper and caliper bracket by removing the two 15 mm bolts that attach the caliper bracket to the spindle. Lift the caliper and bracket up to clear the rotor. Hang the caliper from the front suspension using a piece of wire coat hanger to prevent damage to the rubber brake hose. It is not necessary to remove the caliper from the bracket unless the brake pads are being replaced.
- 3). Slide the rotor off of the hub assembly. If there is a buildup of rust preventing the rotor from easily slipping off the hub, a few sharp blows with a hammer around the hub will loosen the rotor. Clean the rust off of the hub with a wire brush before reinstalling the rotor.
