    Screw-in Hooks

    • 1). Select a wooden post or beam on which to install the screw-in hook style plant hanger. Mark with a pencil the selected location on the post to install the screw-in hook.

    • 2). Drill a 2-inch deep pilot hole into the wooden post or beam at the pencil mark with a drill and 1/16-inch drill bit.

    • 3). Align the point of the screw-in hook at the pilot hole. Turn the hook in a clockwise motion to thread the hook into the wooden post or beam. Continue turning the hook until the threads are completely into the wood. Stop when the hook is facing upwards so that it will hold the hanging planter in place.

    Screw-mounted Hooks

    • 1). Hold the screw-mounted hook against the wooden post where you would like to install it. Mark the mounting holes in the hook with a pencil.

    • 2). Drill a 1-inch deep pilot hole into the post at each pencil mark with a drill and 1/16-inch drill bit.

    • 3). Drive the screws included with the screw-mounted hanger through the mounting holes in the hanger into the wooden post, using a screw gun.

    Shepherd's Hook

    • 1). Select a location to install the shepherd's hook and mark the ground with your foot.

    • 2). Align the base of the shepherd's hook with the mark on the ground. Orient the top end of the hook so that it is facing the direction that you would like the plant to face.

    • 3). Push the shepherd's hook base into the ground using your hands and pushing from the top. Press against the base with your feet once the hook base is partially into the soil to seat the base firmly into the ground.
