How to Replace an ABS Wheel Sensor in a Hyundai Santa Fe

    • 1). Determine which ABS wheel sensor your Hyundai Santa Fe will need. You'll want to be sure the new wheel sensor is compatible with your make and model of Santa Fe. All versions of the Santa Fe made after 2006 offer ABS as standard equipment.

    • 2). Turn off the ignition and use a socket wrench to remove the mounting bolt for the wheel speed sensor. If you are replacing a front wheel speed sensor, remove the mud ground and front wheel guard with a socket wrench. If you are replacing a rear wheel speed sensor, remove the rear seat side pad.

    • 3). Unplug the electrical connector for the wheel speed sensor and remove the sensor from the vehicle.

    • 4). Install the new wheel sensor and plug the electrical connector into the sensor. Use a socket wrench to mount the front wheel guard and mud ground for front wheel speed sensors. Replace the rear seat side pad for rear wheel speed sensors. Tighten the wheel speed sensor mounting bolt with a socket wrench.

    • 5). Turn the ignition on and ensure ABS light does not turn on. Drive the vehicle and apply the brakes several times to ensure proper operation of the ABS.
