    Camera Not Operating

    • The A510 may not operate from time to time when you try to turn on the power or use any of the buttons. This problem is usually caused by an issue with the battery. First, press and hold the power button for a few seconds. The camera will not turn on if you quickly press the power button.

Next, check that the batteries are installed correctly and fully charged. If you suspect the batteries are drained, charge or replace the batteries with two AA batteries. The batteries should be alkaline or Canon NiMH batteries. You should wipe off the terminals on the inside of the battery compartment door to remove any dirt that may hinder the connection between the terminals and the battery contacts.

Finally, make sure the battery compartment and memory card doors are closed and secure. The camera will not operate if either door is ajar.

    Camera Won't Take Pictures

    • The A510 may not record any pictures for several reasons. First, check that the camera is not set to "Playback" as images cannot be recorded when the A510 is in "Playback" mode. Set the camera to "Shooting" mode by pressing the mode selection switch up.

If you just took a picture before attempting to take another, the flash may not have fully charged. You will not be able to take a second picture until the flash charges. Make sure the upper indicator light is a solid orange before trying to take a picture.

The memory card may be the cause of your camera not taking photographs. Check to see if the memory card is full and delete any images or transfer them to your computer.

    Blurry Photographs

    • Blurry photographs are often the result of the camera moving when the shot is taken. Make sure you keep the camera steady when taking a photograph. If you are unable to reduce camera shake when taking a shot, place the camera on a flat, steady surface or tripod.

The A510 features an AF-assist beam, a small light on the front of the camera that covers the subject of the photograph in a uniform light. The light helps the auto focus feature of the camera focus better on the subject. If the light is obstructed, it will not help the auto focus. Make sure your hand or another object is not obstructing the AF-assist beam when taking pictures.
