How to Test the Fuel Gauge on a 2000 Firebird

    • 1). Shift the Firebird's transmission into park or first gear (if yo have a manual transmission). Turn off the ignition and apply the parking brake. Turn the ignition back to the "On" position but do not start the engine.

    • 2). Connect the scan tool's data cable to the Firebird's diagnostic data port located underneath the dashboard, just below the steering wheel.

    • 3). Power on the scan tool and allow it to boot up. Follow the on-screen instruction to enter in the vehicle's powertrain information.

    • 4). Select "Bi-Directional Tests" from the scan tool's main menu. Select "Gauges," then choose "Fuel."

    • 5). Follow the on-screen instructions on the scan tool to move the fuel gauge to the "F" mark and then back down to "E." If the fuel gauge responds to the scan tool then the fuel gauge is functioning properly.
