Directions for Making Ribbon Roses

    • 1). Cut 2 feet of wire ribbon. Tie a knot at one end of the ribbon so that it has a tail 1 inch long. This will be the stem of your rose.

    • 2). Grab the opposite end of the ribbon, and use needle-nosed pliers to pull out a small piece of the wire. Use one hand to keep pulling out the wire, while the other hand loosely gathers the ribbon into delicate folds.

    • 3). Finish gathering all the fabric until you reach the bottom knot. Hold the knot in one hand. With the other hand, tightly pull the fabric and wrap it tautly so that it forms a bud-like shape. This is the center of your rose.

    • 4). Wrap the gathered ribbon loosely around the bud one time. This forms one petal. Wrap again, with slightly less tension. Repeat until the ribbon is completely wrapped around the rose.

    • 5). Take the end of the ribbon and fold the top corner down at an angle to the bottom wired edge. This gives a smooth edge to the rose. Use the leftover wire pulled from the top of the ribbon to wrap around the bottom of the folded-over ribbon. Wrap the wire several times around the knot at the bottom. Cut off the remainder of the wire. Separate the "petals" if needed to give them shape. Use your fingers to shape the edges of the petals to give them a more natural look.
