How to Remove the Drum From a Kenmore Dryer
- 1). Disconnect the dryer from the electrical outlet. Slide the dryer out from the wall and remove the dryer vent from the back of the dryer by unscrewing the retaining screw on the vent's clamp.
- 2). Slide the lint tray out from the top of the dryer. Remove the two screws from inside the lint tray cavity.
- 3). Slide a putty knife under the top panel of the dryer on the left side. Lift up on the putty knife to release the left side retaining clip. Repeat the process on the right side. Lift the top panel up and rotate it toward the back of the dryer.
- 4). Remove the dryer's lower kick panel if needed. Slide a flat head screwdriver between the top of the kick panel and the bottom of the front panel. Push out on the screwdriver to release the kick panel. Slide the kick panel off to the side. Loosen, but don't remove, the two screws on the bottom of the front panel. Unhook the two springs in the lower corners of the front panel.
- 5). Remove the screws along the inside edges of the front panel. Tilt the top of the panel toward you and lift it up. If your dryer has the kick panel, lift the front panel off of the previously loosened bottom screws. If your dryer has no kick panel, lift the panel up until the lower spring clips release. Slide the front panel off to the side of the dryer.
- 6). Reach under the drum and press in on the idler, located in the dryer's back corner, in front of the motor. Pressing in on the idler arm releases the drum belt's tension. Remove the belt from the motor pulley. Grab the top of the belt and use it to slide the drum out of the dryer's cabinet.
