How to Install RV Windows
- 1). Order a replacement window from your RV manufacturer. There are many different window sizes and shapes in recreational vehicles. Ordering directly from the manufacture will assure that the window will fit correctly. Look in your RV owner's manual for the manufacturer's phone number.
- 2). Order a window frame unit from the manufacturer. It is best to replace the window frame unit when you replace the window in case there is damage to the window frame. The window frame can get damaged when removing the old window. Starting with a fresh frame will make the window installation go a lot easier.
- 3). Remove the screws on the window frame on the inside of the window (the side inside the RV), using a phillips head screwdriver. Have a person stand outside of the RV to hold the window and prevent it from falling out.
- 4). Remove the inside window frame. Once the screws are removed, the inside window frame can be pulled off with your hands. Remember to keep a person outside to prevent the window from falling out.
- 5). Scrape off any caulking and window sealant on the outside of the window, using a putty knife. Once the caulking and sealant is removed, the window can be pulled out of the frame.
- 1). Put new putty tape inside the empty window opening.
- 2). Place the new window into the opening.
- 3). Place the new window frame inside the RV and screw in the screws using a phillips head screwdriver. Have a person stand outside and hold the window to prevent it from falling out.
- 4). Squirt a 1/4-inch line of silicone caulking around the whole edges of the outside of the window.
- 5). Wipe the caulking with a wet finger, pressing the caulking into the creases of the window and window frame. This will provide a better waterproof seal. Allow the caulking to dry for one day.
