How to Tell How Much Free Hard Disk Space Your Computer Has
- 1). Click "Start" at the bottom left corner of your computer screen to open the Start menu.
- 2). Select "Computer" from the column on the right side of the Start menu.
- 3). Locate the "Hard Disk Drives" section in the center pane of the "Computer" window, then find the drive for which you want to know the amount of free hard disk space. For typical Windows installations, the main hard disk drive is the "C" drive. Note that any external hard drives connected to your computer are displayed in this section as well.
- 4). Read the gray text under the horizontal bar next to the icon for your hard drive. It will say "xxx GB free of zzz GB." The number indicated in the "xxx" location is the amount of free hard disk space your computer has left.
