    • 1). If you can safely perform a shut-down routine on your PS/1, begin the shut-down process and allow the machine to power itself off. If your machine is locked up or refuses to cooperate, simply use the power switch located on the computer's monitor to shut it down.

    • 2). Once the computer is successfully powered down, allow it to "rest" (while resetting its memory) for 30 to 60 seconds. You may leave the machine off for longer if desired, but it should remain powered off for a minimum of 30 seconds.

    • 3). Ensure your mouse is plugged in to the computer, and hold down both mouse buttons. If you have a three-button mouse, simply hold down the left and right mouse buttons; it is not necessary to hold down any additional keys besides the two main mouse buttons.

    • 4). While holding the mouse buttons down, power on the PS/1 by pressing the power button on the front of the monitor. Ensure you continue to hold both mouse buttons while the machine progresses through the entire boot process. The machine may boot more slowly than usual, or display unusual messages during the process, but these effects are typical of the ROM boot and should not be cause for concern.

    • 5). The PS/1 will boot into usable operation by booting from the built-in ROM, but this procedure will not permanently restore the machine's functionality. When possible, you will want to reinstall the computer's operating system to completely restore the machine's operation.
