Custom Glass Finishes

• Custom glass panels allow for personalized decorations for your sidelights. Usually, custom glass manufacturers let you choose the angle of the glass edges, the pattern on the window pane and any stain glass colors if needed. With the edges, the glass can be angled to produce a plane that pops out the center of the glass panel -- this could be a shallow angle for a 1-inch-deep border or a steep angle for a thinner edge. Patterns are usually floral or involve intertwined shapes. Stained glass panels commonly include solid blocks of primary or secondary colors such as red, yellow, blue and green. • Faux iron inserts are usually fitted on the exterior of the sidelight glass and provide an ornamental grid-like effect. The iron finish is quite unique because it alludes very much to the Victorian era of architecture in England, with cottage and city houses decorated with iron hatch exteriors. Because these inserts are faux iron means they are extremely lightweight and can be cut down and fitted in a relatively short time. A common style for a faux iron grid is a criss-cross diamond but you can also purchase ones with a more detailed and intricate pattern.

• Adhesive-free decorative window films are vinyl sheet decorations that literally cling to a window pane -- they use a static cling technology for easy removal and application. These films are ideal for those who value a bit of privacy because standard sidelights are completely transparent. Window films allow light in but also distort the appearance of the glass so it is translucent and distorted. Designs for these vinyl sheets can vary. Some have elegant patterns protruding from the center, while others are more basic and feature a few design patterns in each corner.

At night, sidelight curtains are a nice idea for keeping your cozy home away from prying eyes.
