Kenmore HE2 110.4646 Won't Drain
- One of the primary culprits when a Kenmore washing machine will not drain is the drain hose. Turn off power to the washer and move it out from the wall. Assistance may be necessary to move the unit, as it is not light. Once you have access to the rear of the washing machine, put towels down on the floor and disconnect the drain hose. Clean out the screen inside the hose and the screen inside the washing machine where the drain hose is connected. Remove any debris that may potentially cause a problem. Once you reconnect the drain hose, straighten it out so that it is not pinched or trapped, as this may also create drain issues.
- Another component related to the drain hose is how far off the ground the hose is lifted. If the end of the drain hose has been secured more than 96 inches off the ground, water is more likely to flow back into the hose and back into the washing machine instead of out of the hose as expected. Measure from the end of the drain hose to the floor, and lower the drain hose if necessary.
- While laundry detergent is a good thing, and sometimes more of a good thing is even better, this is not the case with laundry detergent. Your HE2 Kenmore requires a specific type of detergent -- it's sold everywhere, but it's not the same as traditional laundry detergent. Use only the recommended amount of of the proper detergent as indicated on the laundry detergent container, as using more may create too many suds in the washing machine and cause drain problems. It is important to use high-efficiency laundry detergent (HE) with a Kenmore HE-series washer, as regular detergent may suds more than an HE-series machine is designed to handle. Run an additional drain cycle if there are too many suds in the washer to clean the soap out of the tub.
- Again, while sometimes doing more is a good thing, it is not always a good thing with a washing machine. Overfilling the washing machine can block the washing machine from draining the water properly. It can also create an unbalanced load, which inhibits proper drainage. Create a good load of mixed fabrics and item sizes and keep the total load size to a moderate level. Remove items if the washer is already overfilled, and either resume or restart a cycle.
