How to Troubleshoot an XP USB Keyboard
- 1). Pull the USB cable out of your computer and plug another USB device, such as a digital camera, into the same port. Plug the USB keyboard into another port and try it again.
- 2). Click the "Start" button and choose "Shut down" from the menu. Shut down the XP computer, then restart it and try to use the keyboard. Remove and reseat the USB cable, if there is no response from the keyboard.
- 3). Press each key on the keyboard and note any that are not working. Use a can of compressed air to spray the keyboard and remove dirt and debris from under the keys. Repeat testing each key and apply more compressed air to any that still do not work.
- 4). Place a small, flat head screwdriver under any keys that are still not working. Carefully turn the keyboard upside down and shake it to remove any dirt from under the keys. Continue working on each key until all of the keys are working.
