Hotel Indigo Paddington
About.com Rating
Hotel Indigo Paddington is a boutique, townhouse hotel only two minutes walk from Paddington train station so perfect when coming in on the Heathrow Express.
(See How Do I Get to London From Heathrow Airport?)
It's a ten minute walk to Hyde Park and a twenty minute walk to Kensington Palace. And if you're in the area on a Friday it's only 5 minutes walk from the Rolling Bridge.
Contemporary Design
The rooms have a great style and there are even canvas photos of the local area to make sure you know you're in London.
There's nothing chintzy here as it's design-focused elegance. The luxury comes with the custom-made beds, plush duvets and bathrooms with spa-inspired showers.
Fantastic Staff
The welcome I received at check-in was wonderful and staff are efficient, organized and greet you with a smile. As my room was ready, I was able to check-in early but they are also happy to store luggage so you can get on with your day.
Check out is at 11am and again, they were able to accommodate a little extension on that so I could stay longer and then go straight to a lunch appointment, so it's always worth asking.
Free Wifi
A major plus point for me was the free wifi which worked well. Collect a code at check-in which works for all of your devices.
There's also an entertainment package available (chargeable) if you want Internet TV and loads of movies but I didn't try this as the wifi was all I needed.
Food and Drink
Top of this list is the free mini-bar! OK, it's only soft drinks but what a refreshing concept as I'm always thirsty in hotel rooms.
There's an all-day dining room - London Street Brasserie - where you can have breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner or just a coffee. Breakfast is not included in the room rate but ask at Reception for a guest discount card so you can dine here.
Fitness Centre
For those who overindulge with the afternoon tea, there's a basement Fitness Centre with free water and towels provided.
Room Facilities
The rooms are not huge, and this is to be expected in these terraced buildings, but the space is used well. There's double glazing and I was impressed how little I could here from outside.
There's a large flat-screen TV and my 'Executive Room' had a sofa and armchair, as well as a desk and chair, so I didn't have to relax on the bed. There was a coffee table with style magazines too.
Tea and coffee making facilities were stored under the desk and an iron and ironing board were in the wardrobe, along with a hairdryer, safe and the free mini-bar which could be used as a fridge too. I was pleased to see real coathangers and not those hotel anti-theft hangers seen in most places.
There's a full-length mirror and black-out blinds as well as easy to work heating and A/C.
The bathroom has a rain shower-head and the large shower area replaces a bath but with the White Company toiletries felt very luxurious.
Turn-down Service
I stay in a lot of nice places but the turn-down service doesn't happen often so this was a real treat. I came back from dinner to find the blinds lowered, the heating on, the bed covers turned back, and chocolates left for me. It's those little things that really made a difference here and just goes to show, even though you are left to enjoy your stay, the staff are always doing things to help.
