    • 1). Locate a replacement knob that has a lockout adapter or room at the bottom to accommodate a lockout ring.

    • 2). Cut the current shifter handle off at the base of the handle, using a hacksaw. Put a towel under the knob to collect the metal shavings to throw out.

    • 3). Thread the shaft 1/2 an inch or more, using a metal threader. The thread depth will depend on the size of your replacement shifter.

    • 4). Screw on your new shifter handle.

    • 5). Test your shifter handle to ensure that the lockout ring still functions properly.
