- Each Compaq Presario 1200US was based on the Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition operating system. The processor on the laptop was a single-core, Intel Celeron chip with an 800 MHz processing speed, 100 MHz front-side bus speed (the rate at which it connected with the motherboard for data transfer) and a secondary memory bank containing 128 KB of storage space. The pre-installed memory was 128 MB using a 100- MHz synchronous dynamic random access memory architecture. Users could upgrade the memory to a peak of 320 MB.
