    • 1). Wash all clothing, towels and bedding on the hottest setting allowed for the specific items, using detergent. Dry in a dryer. The items must reach at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit to kill off the bedbugs.

    • 2). Place items that cannot be laundered in plastic. Wrap each bag loosely and place outside in a sunny location for at least 24 hours. The temperature inside the bag must reach at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit.

    • 3). Vacuum your home thoroughly. Use the attachments for hard-to-reach areas. Vacuuming will not get all bedbugs, but it will help eliminate some of them. Discard the contents inside the vacuum canister in a sealed plastic bag to prevent bugs from escaping.

    • 4). Steam-clean your mattress with a hand-held steamer. If possible, move the mattress into the sunlight for a few hours.
