How to Remove & Replace the PCM on a Ford Truck
- 1). Raise the hood and prop it open. Remove the negative (black) battery terminal with an open-ended wrench and then the positive (red) terminal. Wait at least two minutes before starting work on the PCM.
- 2). Remain in the engine compartment and, using a socket wrench, loosen the bolt that retains the electrical connector to the PCM.
- 3). Inside the vehicle, pry the scuff plate off the bottom of the passenger's side door with a slotted screwdriver. Remove the kick plate from the passenger's foot well in the same way.
- 4). Remove the retaining bolts on the top and bottom of the PCM with a socket wrench. Carefully slide the PCM out from under the dashboard.
- 5). Replace the new PCM onto the mounting and install the retaining bolts.
- 6). Replace the foot well kick plate and the passenger door scuff plate by snapping them into place.
- 7). Install the electrical connector retaining bolt under the hood, then replace the positive and negative terminals to the battery.
