Type I PCMCIA

• Type I PCMICA cards can be up to 3.3 mm thick and can contain up to 68 pins. These types of cards usually add additional RAM or flash memory to your Inspiron 2600.
  
  

Type II PCMCIA

• Type II PCMCIA cards can be up to 5.5 mm. This type of card usually adds connectivity to your Inspiron 2600. Type II PCMCIA card can contain a fax modem, standard modem or wireless network adapter. Add one of these cards to connect to the Internet or a local area network.
  
  

Plug-and-Play

• Both types of PCMCIA cards support plug-and-play technology. You don't usually need to turn off your Inspiron 2600 in order to add a PCMCIA card: you can slip a type II card into the slot to send a quick fax, then replace it with a type I PCMCIA card for extra storage space.
