    Late-Night Snacking

    • Late-night binge eating is a common problem among college students who may stay awake late into the night to finish a term paper, study for an upcoming exam or catch up with their cohorts. Regardless, the selection of foods made available at this hour is rarely fresh fruits and vegetables. Students find themselves splitting a pizza pie or relishing a pint of ice cream. The best advice is to try to limit these indulgences to special occasions and stop eating no later than two hours before you plan to go to sleep. Individuals generally find it difficult to fall asleep before their food has been completely digested.

    Buffet-Style Cafeteria Tips

    • A fully stocked cafeteria at your avail can be extremely dangerous, especially if you are famished at the time. If your university presents a weekly menu, take a few minutes to plan your meals ahead of time. This will avert an overconsumption of prepared foods when ravenous. Many universities now make note of their healthier food options, which you can use as a guideline for foods that possess the least amount of calories and fats and other foods that should be seldom eaten. Be aware of portion sizes. Loading five plates onto your tray may not be the best way to keep your weight in check no matter how "healthy" you perceive the foods to be. Only take food that you plan to eat because once you sit down at the table, you are less likely to resist the temptation and eat it.

    Beverages

    • Alcohol and soda are two drinks that should be avoided. Alcohol can impair functioning and is a likely cause of weight gain. There are countless ways to enjoy oneself exclusive of this intoxicating beverage. Soda contains many artificial ingredients and high fructose corn syrup. Both beverages provide additional and unnecessary high amounts of calories to your diet. Water is a much better option and will help your body remain hydrated and sustain the fluids it requires for proper functioning. Cutting out nonessential and high-caloric beverages can help you avoid extra pounds.
