How to Put a Windows Server Shortcut on the Desktop of a Mac
- 1). Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
- 2). Click "Preferences" under the Finder menu at the top of the screen.
- 3). Place a check next to "Connected servers" and close the preferences window.
- 4). Press "Command-K" and then type "smb://windows-IP/" without quotes and replacing "windows-IP" with the actual IP address of the Windows server.
- 5). Press "Return." Enter a user name and password, if required.
- 6). Click the server icon on the Mac's desktop.
- 7). Press "Command-L" to create an alias. Rename and move the alias, if desired.
Optionally, you can hide the connected servers from the desktop again in the Finder preferences. The alias remains as a permanent shortcut on the desktop and can be double-clicked to reach the Windows server.
