    • 1). Make sure that the tilt steering wheel is in the topmost position. Most vehicles with a tilt steering wheel have the tilt mechanism on the left side of the steering wheel. Pull the lever forward to allow the steering wheel to angle up to the topmost position.

    • 2). Remove the Phillips head screws that hold the bottom of the steering column cover in place. These screws are located on the underside of the steering column.

    • 3). Pull down on the steering column cover to remove it. Some vehicles have an access hole directly under the ignition switch on the underside of the steering column. Other vehicles have an access hole under the face of the ignition switch.

    • 4). Push the punch pin into the access hole to press on the release tab while you pry the ignition switch and cylinder out of the steering column with a small, flat tip screwdriver.

    • 5). Remove the punch pin from the access hole.

    • 6). Slide a new ignition switch assembly into the steering column and orient the switch assembly until it snaps into place in the steering column. Then replace the steering column cover.
