The Location of the Picture Vehicle Speed Sensor in a 95 Windstar

104 7

    Location

    • Lift the Windstar's hood, securing the component in an upright position by raising and attaching the hood and the hood support rod. Examine the driver's right-hand side of the engine in the upper engine area. The vehicle speed sensor is positioned on the transmission.

    Purpose

    • The speed sensor monitors pressures placed upon the gas and brake pedals, translating the pressure into a change of speed. The sensor coordinates power steering along with providing small amounts of speed for parking and tight maneuvers and engagement and disengagement of the brakes to prevent skids and uncontrollable spins.

    Considerations

    • Over time, the speed sensor may begin to malfunction, requiring additional pressure placed down on the gas and brake pedals in order to achieve a desired change in speed. When this happens, consider having the component replaced to ensure the pedals can function reliably when in use.
