How to Use Crab Larvae for Fishing Scent
- 1). Purchase some crab larvae from a local fishing supply shop. The closer the shop is to an ocean fishing hot spot, the more likely it is that the shop will have some in stock. Because crab larvae are not used as frequently in freshwater inland pools, the larvae will not be as common further inland. However, if nothing else, you can purchase some online. Just make sure you pay for speedy shipping so the larvae do not dry out before you get a chance to use them.
- 2). Grind up the crab larvae using a mortar and pestle. For each piece of bait that you are going to use the larvae for, you should grind about two to three larvae. This will ensure that the scent is not too overpowering but will attract a large number of fish.
- 3). Dip the bait that you are going to use in the ground-up larvae. This will coat the bait with the larvae, giving it the scent of the crab. The grinding of the larvae releases powerfully scented juices from the larvae that can attract fish from meters away in all directions. Once the bait is coated generously in the larvae solution, it is ready to be used.
