How to Help Save Coral Reefs
- 1). Take steps to reduce pollution. In particular, try to reduce your usage of fossil fuels and decrease the amount of emissions produced. Emissions from automobiles have led to the ocean temperature increasing and the bleaching of corals. The fewer emissions, the less destruction that occurs. Consider using public transportation, riding a bike or walking.
- 2). Attempt to conserve water. Water runoff and waste water all bring pollution to the ocean, which in turn hurts the coral reefs. If you water your lawn, do not add harmful chemicals to the water that will end up in the ocean.
- 3). Start shopping at reef-friendly businesses and buy products from those companies that support coral reefs. Ask at each place to see if they support coral reefs or any organization that can benefit the reefs.
- 4). Start planting trees. Trees will help stop the atmosphere from warming, which in turn will help keep the water temperature at its needed temperature. Trees also will reduce the amount of water runoff into the ocean.
- 5). Take a vacation to participate in coral reef cleanup. These reefs are found in some of the most spectacular vacation spots in the world. Spend a day out of your vacation to go out and clean up the reef.
- 6). Get friends involved. Let others know what you are doing and see about getting others to participate with you. Let people know that little changes can make a big difference.
