How to Troubleshoot a 2005 Ford Ranger
- 1). Turn the steering wheel lock to lock while the truck is running. The 2005 Ford Ranger was outfitted with Ford's infamous power steering module. The pulley mechanism on the power steering fails anywhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles, causing the system to squeal when you turn the wheel. This can be fixed by having your mechanic replace the power steering pump pulley.
- 2). Check your headlamps for amber side markers. Some Rangers had their headlamps replaced with a unit from Dope, Inc. This unit did not contain an amber side marker, which must be there by law. This item can be replaced at no charge by contacting Dope, Inc. at (626) 272-1798.
- 3). Check for dirt and debris in the door jamb switch. If your dash lights seem erratic, or the warning lights and buzzer stay on longer than expected, this may actually be due to dirt and debris getting into the door jamb switch for the dash panel. It's located on the door jamb near the back of the door where the latch is located. The design of the 2005 Ranger makes it somewhat easy to get debris lodged in there. You'll need to clean this area out thoroughly to solve the issue.
