How to Troubleshoot a Carrier Air Conditioner

    • 1). Make sure your air conditioner is plugged into an electrical outlet. Check the thermostat make sure it is set to the "Cool" position.

    • 2). Check your condensing unit, if you are using an outside air conditioner. Locate the circuit breaker box. It is usually mounted to an outside wall in the back of your house or basement. Open the box, and make sure the circuit breaker is set to "On."

    • 3). Check the disconnect switch on your outside unit. It is usually located on the front, side or back of your outside unit, depending on the model. Set the switch to the "On" position if it is in the "Off" position.

    • 4). Check the blower motor on your air conditioner's furnace. It usually turns on when your thermostat is in the "cool" position. Set the switch on the furnace to the "On" position.

    • 5). Inspect your air conditioner's grilles. If they are dirty, clean them with a vacuum cleaner. Make sure air grilles are away from furniture. Open air registers to allow adequate flow of air.
