Ideas for Decorating an Ice Cream Raffle Basket
- Get a large round basket with a handle. The first step is to line the basket with vanilla-colored material. Use a hot glue gun and glue the material inside the basket. Have the material curl over the edge of the basket and glue it 1 or 2 inches the down the outside. Next find a wide strip of chocolate-colored lace. Glue this around the basket at the edge of the vanilla material. Wrap the handle with frothy white lace and secure on both ends of the handle. For the finishing touch find a plastic cherry in the craft section or paint a small piece of Styrofoam to look like a cherry. Glue the cherry to the top of the handle. The basket is now a giant hot fudge sundae with a cherry on top.
- Find an odd-shaped basket with a sturdy rim. The weave on the basket needs to be spaced far enough apart to get a ribbon to slide through the side. Tie long-handled desert spoons to the outside of the basket with small pieces of ice cream-colored ribbon. Just slide the ribbon through the basket weave, loop around the spoon handle and then back through the weave. Knot them on tightly. In the center front of the basket, tie on an ice cream scoop. Along the rim of the basket tie a row of twisty silly straws. Make sure that the raffle basket also includes tall ice cream sundae glasses so there is a reason to use the spoons and straws.
- Take your raffle basket and loosely stuff it with neapolitan-colored tissue paper. Lightly crinkle it. Pack your items among and on top of the paper. When you look at the basket you should see a scoop of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla tissue paper ice cream. Next use a piece of clear cellophane and set the basket in the middle. Wrap it up to the top and secure with a rubber band. Tie a neapolitan-colored ribbon around the top to hide the rubber band. The final touch is to take some ice cream-themed stickers and apply them to the cellophane.
