My Favorite Rock Groups - The Bee Gees

103 6
Of all the rock groups that I have loved over the years, The Bee Gees have to be the most unusual for one reason that I'm going to share with you in this article.
And while I can honestly say that I don't love everything that they've done (not even close) they are still one of my favorite rock groups of all time.
If you're confused, keep reading.
You'll understand why they're a favorite.
The early Bee Gees had a sound like no other group.
Three brothers, Robin, Maurice and Barry, who all sounded so much alike and yet so different.
Robin has a voice that was just impossible to describe.
Many impersonators used to poke fun at them constantly.
But their music was wonderful.
And it stayed relatively constant throughout the 60s and early 70s.
And then something odd happened.
It was called "Saturday Night Fever.
" I'm sure you remember the movie.
More importantly, I'm sure you remember the soundtrack.
And suddenly, this easy listening group with the melodic sound, went disco.
They had the biggest songs of the year with "Night Fever" and "Stayin Alive.
" And quite honestly...
I hated them both.
What happened to my group that I loved so much? Ironically, they had more success with those tunes and that soundtrack than with anything else that they had done in their history.
Love it or not, Saturday Night Fever was huge.
But in the middle of hating them, I had to sit down and realize what an amazing transformation this was.
Never in all my years of listening to rock music had I heard a group so drastically change their sound.
For this, I had to give them some props.
And then something odd happened.
The disco era ended (thank goodness) and The Bee Gees changed their sound yet again.
It was somewhere between their early years and their disco years.
It was yet another new sound.
How many sounds did this group have? I was floored by their range.
Was there nothing that this group couldn't do? So while The Bee Gees certainly had their share of tunes that I could live without, they left a legacy that just can't be ignored.
If you're interested, here is a list of my favorite Bee Gee tunes.
"Saw A New Morning" "Lonely Days" "Words" "First Of May" "Massachusetts" "Nights On Broadway" There are more that I liked, but these are my all time favorites.
