    Changing the Spark Plug

    • 1). Locate the spark plugs on the side of the engine. They will be located under the valve covers. The size of the motor will dictate how many spark plugs you have. A six-cylinder motor will have six spark plugs and an eight-cylinder motor will have eight.

    • 2). Locate the first spark plug and pull the wire off with your fingers.

    • 3). Unscrew the spark plug by loosening it with your socket wrench and a 5/8" spark plug socket. Pull out the spark plug. It should come out smoothly in the socket.

    • 4). Install a new spark plug. By hand, carefully rotate the spark plug to make sure it is threaded properly. If there is a lot of resistance, you might have the spark plug cross-threaded and will need to back it out and start over. Screw in the spark plug snugly with your fingers.

    • 5). Ratchet the spark plug another half-turn to seat the spark plug in the cylinder. Push the spark plug wire over the spark plug and apply pressure till it clicks in place.

    • 6). Repeat these steps on the remaining spark plugs. Replace each spark plug one cylinder at a time to ensure the spark plug wire goes on the correct cylinder.
