How to Check Battery Cables for Corrosion and Tightness in a Plymouth Voyager
- 1). Turn off the engine of your Voyager before you check the battery cables for corrosion and tightness. Wear goggles and rubber gloves to protect yourself from sparks and battery acid.
- 2). Lift the hood of your vehicle and look at the battery for outward signs of corrosion. This is usually noticeable as a white or yellow powder on the battery.
- 3). Remove corrosion by pouring a mixture of baking soda and water over the powder. It should bubble up and turn brown as it disappears. Rinse off any excess with plain water.
- 4). Check the battery cables in your Voyager for corrosion by bending them slightly. If you feel a crunching sensation, this is a sign of corrosive powder. Cut into the plastic covering with a knife or razor, and look inside for white powder or a green tint on the copper wires.
- 5). Replace the battery cables in your Voyager if there is evidence of corrosion.
- 6). Test the tightness of the battery cables by grasping the ports that connect the cables to the battery. Try to move or wiggle the ports. If there is any movement, tighten the bolts with a wrench.
