How to Change the Oil Filter on a Chevrolet Cavalier
- 1). Locate your oil drain plug. The oil drain plug is on the underside of the car. It is a small nut, usually a ½ inch nut. It is inset on a large reservoir, your oil reservoir.
- 2). Place the oil pan beneath the oil plug. Remove the oil plug.
- 3). Locate the oil filter. While the oil drains from the reservoir, locate your oil filter. In the front of the engine under the power steering pump, there is a 1 ¼ inch black plastic nut facing up. Unscrew that nut; the oil filter is attached to the bottom of that.
- 4). Remove the oil filter. If the oil filter is too tight to remove by hand, use the filter wrench.
- 5). Replace the oil filter. Place the oil filter where the old one was.
