    • 1). Purchase a replacement low beam headlight bulb from an auto parts store. Consult your Volvo owner's manual for what type of bulb to purchase.

    • 2). Turn off your Volvo engine and ensure that the headlight switch is in the "Off" position.

    • 3). Open the hood of the vehicle and lock it in place with the retaining bar.

    • 4). Locate the headlight assembly in the Volvo's engine compartment and remove the large plastic cover in the center of the light. Turn the plastic cover to the left and pull outward.

    • 5). Pull the retaining spring to the right to detach it from its locked position and pull outward to provide access to the bulb.

    • 6). Pull the dead bulb straight out of the light housing.

    • 7). Insert the replacement bulb. Its base will have an orientation pin that must correctly align to a notch in the bulb receptacle.

    • 8). Replace the retaining spring to its locked position to hold the bulb in place.

    • 9). Replace the plastic cover and turn to the right to lock it in place.
